The Doors - Road House Blues

Road House Blues Lyrics

Ah keep your eyes on the road, Your hands upon the wheel.
Keep your eyes on the road Your hands upon the wheel.
Yeah, we're going to the roadhouse, Gonna have a real good-time.
Yeah, the back of the roadhouse, They've got some bungalows.
Yeah, the back of the roadhouse, They've got some bungalows.
They dance for the people Who like to go down slow.
Let it roll, baby roll. Let it roll, baby roll.
Let it roll, baby roll. Let it roll, all night long.
Do it, robby, do it!You gotta roll, roll, roll,
You gotta thrill my soul, alright.Roll, roll, roll,
roll-a Thrill my soul.
Ashen-lady.Ashen-lady. Give up your vows. Give up your vows.
Save our city. Save our city.Ah, right now.
Well, I woke up this morning And I got myself a beer.
Well, I woke up this morning And I got myself a beer.
The futures uncertain And the end is always near.
Let it roll, baby roll. Let it roll, baby roll.
Let it roll, baby roll. Let it roll, all night long.

Song Note : "When Jim Morrison got drunk, he liked to sing Blues numbers at their jam sessions. They jammed on a lot of Blues numbers, and came up with this at one of the sessions."

"Jim Morrison came up with the line about keeping your "Eyes on the road, your hands up on the wheel" after riding with his girlfriend, Pamela Courson, to a cottage they owned outside Los Angeles. She was driving erratically."

"This was the first song on Morrison Hotel. The album was a return The Doors' earlier style. On their previous album, The Soft Parade, they used a lot of strings and horns. Morrison didn't do much on that album because he was drunk for most of it and had nothing to do while all the instrumentation was being worked out. Before The Doors had a record deal, they played many Blues songs in their long club shows."

The Doors - Riders On The Strom

1971

Riders on The Storm Lyrics

Riders on the storm Riders on the storm
Into this house were born, Into this world were thrown
Like a dog without a bone, An actor out on loan
Riders on the storm Theres a killer on the road
His brain is squirmin like a toad Take a long holiday
Let your children play If ya give this man a ride
Sweet memory will die Killer on the road,
yeah Girl ya gotta love your man Girl
ya gotta love your man Take him by the hand
Make him understand The world on you depends
Our life will never end, Gotta love your man,
yeah Wow!Riders on the storm Riders on the storm
Into this house were born, Into this world were thrown
Like a dog without a bone An actor out alone
Riders on the storm Riders on the storm
Riders on the storm Riders on the storm
Riders on the storm Riders on the storm
Song Note : "This was the last song Jim Morrison recorded. He went to France and died a few weeks later. The single was released in June, 1971, shortly before Morrison's death. This was the last song on the last Doors album with Morrison. Fittingly, it ends with the storm fading slowly to silence. The remaining Doors released 2 more albums without Morrison before breaking up in 1972. In 2002, Kreiger and Manzarek reunited as "The Doors Of The 21st Century." Densmore, who says he wasn't invited to join them, went to court and eventually got a ruling preventing the group from using The Doors in its name, so they changed their name to "Riders On The Storm" after this song."

The Doors - Break On Through To The Other Side

Break on Through to The Other Side

You know the day destroys the night,Night divides the day
Tried to run, tried to hide, Break on through to the other side,
Break on through to the other side,
Break on through to the other side, yeah.
We chased our pleasures here, Dug our treasures there,
But can you still recall the time we cried?
Break on through to the other side,
Break on through to the other side.Yeah!
C'mon, yeah. Everybody loves my baby, Everybody loves my baby.
She gets high She gets high She gets high She gets high yeahhhh!
I found an island in your arms, A country in your eyes,
Arms that chained us, eyes that lied.
Break on through to the other side,
Break on through to the other side,Break on through, wow,
oh yeah! Made the scene week to week, Day to day, hour to hour,
The gate is straight, deep and wide,
Break on through to the other side,
Break on through to the other side,Break
on through,Break on through, Break on through,
Break on through, Break, Break,
Break, Break, Break, Break, Break, Break, Break.

Song Note : "Jim Morrison got some of the lyrics from John Rechy's 1963 book "City of Night." This was the first song on The Doors first album, and also their first single. It got some airplay on Los Angeles radio stations after their friends and fans kept requesting it."

The Doors - Hello I Love You

on The Street in CopenHagen 1968

Hello I love You Lyrics

Hello, I love you. Won't you tell me your name?
Hello, I love you. Let me jump in your game.
Hello, I love you. Won't you tell me your name?
Hello, I love you. Let me jump in your game.
She's walking down the street Blind to every eye she meets.
Do you think you'll be the guy
to make the queen of the angels sigh?
Hello, I love you. Won't you tell me your name?
Hello, I love you. Let me jump in your game.
Hello, I love you. Won't you tell me your name?
Hello, I love you. Let me jump in your game.
She holds her head so high like a statue in the sky.
Her arms are wicked, and her legs are long.
When she moves my brain screams out this song.
Sidewalk crouches at her feet like a dog
that begs for something sweet.
Do you hope to make her see, you fool?
Do you hope to pluck this dusky jewel?
Hello, hello, hello, hello, hello, hello, hello,
I want you, Hello I need my baby, Hello,
hello, hello, hello

Song Note : "Jim Morrison wrote this in 1965 after seeing a beautiful woman walking on the beach. He thought up the song and wrote it that night. The song was not recorded until 3 years later."

"The line "Queen of the angels" refers to Los Angeles, the "City of Angels" The Doors were from LA."

"This was the first Doors song that was successful in Europe."

The Doors - Back Door Man

Black and White Footage

Back Door Man Lyric

Wha, yeah!, cmon, yeah, yeah, cmon, yeah yeah,
cmon, oh yeah, ma Yeah, I'm a back door man,
I'm a back door man. The men don't know,
but the little girl understand, hey.

I'm out to make it with my midnight dream, yeah.
cause I'm a back door man, the men dont know,
But the little girls understand, all right, yeah.
You men eat your dinner, eat your pork
and beans I eat more chicken,
than any man ever seen, yeah, yeah.
I'm a back door man, wha, the men dont know,
But the little girl understand,
Well, I'm a back door man, I'm a back door man.
Whoa, baby, Im a back door man.
The men don't know, But the little girls understand

Song Note : "A Willie Dixon blues song from 1961, this has been covered by John Hammond Jr. and Howlin' Wolf, among others. The Doors decided to cover this after their guitarist Robbie Krieger heard John Hammond Jr.'s version."

"A 'Back Door Man' is a guy who has relations with a woman while her husband has been out slaving away to provide for her. The usual guilty perpetrator if a wife was caught cheating was a regular tradesman caller (Ice Man, Insurance Salesman etc.). He would then run out the back door as the husband entered the front door."

The Doors - When The Music is Over

When The Music Is Over Lyric

Yeah, cmon When the musics over When the musics over, yeah,
when the musics over Turn out the lights, turn out the lights
Turn out the lights, yeah
When the musics over !!! Turn out the lights !!!
For the music is your special friend
Dance on fire as it intends. Music is your only friend
Until the end !!!
Cancel my subscription to the resurrection
Send my credentials to the house of detention
I got some friends inside The face in the mirror won't stop
The girl in the window won't drop. A feast of friends,
alive! she cried Waitin for me, outside!
Before I sink, into the big sleep I want to hear,
I want to hear The scream of the butterfly Come back, baby,
back into my arm. We're gettin tired of hangin around
Waitin around with our heads to the ground
I hear a very gentle sound, very near yet very far Very soft,
yeah, very clear, come today, come today
What have they done to the earth?
What have they done to our fair sister?
Ravaged and plundered and ripped her and bit her Stuck her
with knives in the side of the dawn And tied her with fences
and dragged her down. I hear a very gentle sound
With your ear down to the ground We want the world
and we want it... Now, now? , now!
Persian night, babe, see the light, babeSave us!,
jesus!, save us! So when the musics over When the musics over, yeah
When the musics over Turn out the lights !!!
Well the music is your special friend
Dance on fire as it intends Music is your only friend
Until the end !!!

Song Note : "During live performances, Jim Morrison usually ended up flopping around on the floor. The Doors performed it live many times in 1966 when they were the house band at the Whiskey-A-Go-Go in Los Angeles. It was not released on an album until a year later."

"Arguably, one of the most beautifully intense moments of any Rock song is when Morrison screams, "Persian Night! See the Light! Save Us! Jesus! Save Us!" The first 2 lines reference the wise men from the Bible, often referred to as The Magi. The Magi is a priestly caste from ancient Persia. On that Christmas night the Persian Magi looked into the night and saw the Star of Bethlehem."

"The lyric "scream of the butterfly" is a reference to a porno film."

Bob Marley - War

Video

War Lyric

Until the philosophy which hold one race superior
And another Inferior Is finally And permanently
Discredited And abandoned Everywhere is war
Me say war.

That until there no longer
First class and second class citizens of any nation
Until the colour of a man's skin
Is of no more significance than the colour of his eyes
Me say war.

That until the basic human rights
Are equally guaranteed to all, Without regard to race
Dis a war.

That until that day The dream of lasting peace,
World citizenship Rule of international morality
Will remain in but a fleeting illusion to be pursued,
But never attained Now everywhere is war war.

And until the ignoble and unhappy regimes
that hold our brothers in Angola,
In Mozambique, South Africa Sub-human bondage
Have been toppled,Utterly destroyed Well, everywhere is war
Me say war.

War in the east, War in the west,
War up north, War down south
War war Rumours of war.
And until that day,
The African continent will not know peace,
We Africans will fight We find it necessary
And we know we shall win As we are confident
In the victory

Of good over evil Good over evil, yeah!
Good over evil Good over evil, yeah!
Good over evil Good over evil, yeah!

Song Note : "In the liner notes of Africa Unite: The Singles Collection, Island Records boss Chris Blackwell wrote: 'Is This Love is a great song and I was always very happy with Kaya, the album it came from. It had a very summery, carefree feel. When the album came out, several reviewers said he'd gone soft. But Bob was feeling great at that time and those songs reflected how he was feeling'. "

Bob Marley - Buffalo Soldier

Buffalo Soldier Lyric

Buffalo soldier, dreadlock rasta.
There was a buffalo soldier in the heart of america,
Stolen from africa, brought to america,
Fighting on arrival, fighting for survival
I mean it, when I analyze the stench
To me it makes a lot of sense. How the dreadlock rasta
was the buffalo soldier,And he was taken from africa,
brought to america,Fighting on arrival,
fighting for survival. Said he was a buffalo soldier,
dreadlock rasta, Buffalo soldier in the heart of america
If you know your history,Then you would know where you coming from
Then you wouldnt have to ask me,Who the eck do I think I am
I'm just a buffalo soldier in the heart of america,
Stolen from africa, brought to america,
Said he was fighting on arrival, fighting for survival
Said he was a buffalo soldier win the war for america
Dreadie, woy yoy yoy, woy yoy-yoy yoy,Woy yoy yoy yoy!
Buffalo soldier troddin through the land, wo-ho-ooh!
Said he wanna ran, then you wanna hand,Troddin through the land,
yea-hea, yea-ea.Said he was a buffalo soldier win the war for america
Buffalo soldier, dreadlock rasta, Fighting on arrival, fighting for survival
Driven from the mainland to the heart of the caribbean.Singing,
woy yoy yoy, woy yoy-yoy yoy,Woy yoy yoy yoy,
yoy yoy-yoy yoy!Woy yoy yoy, woy yoy-yoy yoy!
Troddin through san juan in the arms of america,
Troddin through jamaica, a buffalo soldier, Fighting on arrival
fighting for survival, Buffalo soldier, dreadlock rasta
Woy yoy yoy, woy yoy-yoy yoy!

Song Note : "The Buffalo Soldiers were a segregated regiment of black cavalry fighters during the American campaign to rid the West of "Indians" so that "civilized" white people could gain the lands used by Native Americans. Ironically, many of the soldiers were slaves taken from Africa. Bob Marley gives a small history lesson as a protest song about the black man's role in building the country that continues to oppress him."

Bob Marley - Redemption Song

Rare Acoustic Live

Redemption Song Lyric

Old pirates, yes, they rob I. Sold I to the merchant ships,
Minutes after they took I from the bottomless pit
But my hand was made strong by the hand of the almighty
We forward in this generation Triumphantly
Won't you help to sing These songs of freedom?
Cause all I ever have, Redemption songs, Redemption songs
Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery
None but ourselves can free our minds
Have no fear for atomic energy, cause none of them can stop the time
How long shall they kill our prophets, While we stand aside and look?
ooh! Some say its just a part of it. We've got to fulfil de book
Won't you help to sing These songs of freedom?
cause all I ever have, Redemption songs, Redemption songs, Redemption songs
Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery, None but ourselves can free
our mind.Wo! have no fear for atomic energy, cause none of them-a
can-a stop-a the time. How long shall they kill our prophets,
While we stand aside and look? Yes, some say its just a part of it
We've got to fulfil de book. Won't you help to sing
these songs of freedom? -cause all I ever had, Redemption songs
All I ever had, Redemption songs
These songs of freedom,Songs of freedom

Song Note : "Marley completed this album (his last) in the summer of 1980. He was suffering from the cancer that would eventually kill him at age 36, but was very productive in his later years. He refused traditional medicine because of his Rastafarian beliefs and chose to make music and perform as long as he could."

"This Song was Marley's last single before his death on May 11, 1981. It sums up his life and what he stood for in his songs: freedom and redemption. Marley was a very spiritual singer who gave hope to the downtrodden in his native Jamaica, and whose message spread to the United States and around the world when he became a star."

"This was the last song Marley performed. He sang it from a stool at a show in Pittsburgh on September 23, 1980."

Bob Marley - Could You be Loved

Bob Marley and The Wailers

Could You Be Loved Lyric

Could you be loved... and be loved...
Could you be loved... and be loved...
Don't let them fool ya, Or even try to school ya!
Oh, no! We've got a mind of our own,
So go to hell if what you're thinking is not right!
Love would never leave us alone,
Against the darkness there must come out the light
Could you be loved... and be loved...Could you be loved...
wo yeah... and be loved...
The road of life is rocky and you may stumble too,
So while you point your fingers someone else is judging you
Love your brotherman! Could you be, could you be,
could you be loved? Could you be - could you be loved?
Could you be - could you be - could you be loved?
Could you be - could you be loved?
Don't let them change ya, oh! -Or even rearrange ya!
Oh, no! We've got a life to live. ooh, ooh, ooh
They say only only only the fittest of the fittest shall survive
Stay alive! Eh! Could you be loved... and be loved...
Could you be loved... wo now... and be loved...
You ain't gonna miss your water, until your well runs dry
No matter how you treat him, he’ll never be satisfied
Say something! Could you be - could you be - could you be loved?
Could you be - could you be loved? Say something! Say something!
Could you be - could you be - could you be loved? Say something!
Could you be - could you be loved? Saysomething! Say something!
Say something! Say something! Say something!
Could you be loved? Say something! Say something!
Reggae, reggae!Say something! Rasta, rasta! Say something!
Reggae, reggae!Say something! Rasta, rasta! Say something!
Could you be loved? Say something! Uh!

Song Note : "Marley wanted to break into the American market ahead of a big tour in The States. He figured that his Reggae music would not be easily accepted among mainstream black audiences, so he wrote this with a faster (almost Disco) beat. The song was a hit and so was the tour."

Jimi Hendrix - Angel(Acoustic)

Listen to Rare Acoustic Guitar by Hendrix

Angel Lyric

Angel came down from heaven yesterday,
Stayed with me just long enough to rescue me
And she told me a story yesterday
About the sweet love between the moon and the deep blue sea
Then she spread her wings high over me
She said, I'll come back again to see you tomorrow
And I said fly on, my sweet angel. Fly on through the sky
Fly on, my sweet angel. Tomorrow I'm gonna be by your side
Sure enough,This woman came home to me
Silver wings silhouetted against a childs sunrise
And my angel, She said unto me, today is the day for you to rise
Take my hand, you're gonna be my mind, And she took me high over yonder
And I said fly on, my sweet angel. Fly on through the sky
Fly on, my sweet angel. Tomorrow I'm gonna be by your side

Song Note : "Hendrix got the idea for this from a dream where his mother came down from heaven to take him with her."

"Hendrix started working on this in 1967 along with "Little Wing," which was a similar song. He gave up on it, but pulled it out and recorded it on July 23, 1970 - just a few months before his death on September 18, 1970."

Little Wing Lyric

Well she's walking through the clouds
With a circus mind that's running round
Butterflies and zebras and moonbeams
and fairytales That's all she ever thinks about
Riding with the wind. When I'm sad,
she comes to me with a thousand smiles,
she gives to me free It's alright
she says it's alright
Take anything you want from me,
anything anything
Fly on little wing,Yeah
yeah, yeah, little wing

Song Note : "This song was inspired by the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival, a concert held during 3 days of the "Summer of Love" (1967) featuring The Who, The Byrds, Janis Joplin, and many others. Attended by about 200,000 music fans, it happened 2 years before Woodstock. Jimi wrote about the atmosphere at the festival as if it was a girl. He described the feeling as "Everybody really flying and in a nice mood." He named it "Little Wing" because he thought it could just fly away."

"This is one of the songs that had to be remixed just before the album was released when one of the master tapes went missing. No one ever found out what happened to the original tape but its been speculated that Jimi either accidentally left the tape in a taxi or purposely disposed of the tape because he wasn't satisfied with its sound."

"Hendrix has described this as being one of the few he likes from this album. He said "Little Wing" is "like one of those beautiful girls that come around sometimes." Hendrix enjoyed writing slow songs because it was easier to put emotion into them."

sayin Foxy Foxy Foxy lady Foxy lady

Song Note : "This is a very sexual song that was probably inspired by Heather Taylor, who eventually married Roger Daltrey, the lead singer for The Who"

"In the booklet for the Experience Hendrix CD, Hendrix was quoted as saying this was the only happy song he had ever written. He said that he usually just doesn't feel happy when writing songs."

"Hendrix opened for The Monkees on their 1967 tour. When he played this, the young girls who came for The Monkees and had no interest in Hendrix shouted "Davy!" when Hendrix sang "Lady," resulting in "Foxy Davy," and turning it into a tribute to their idol, Monkees lead singer Davy Jones."

Wonderful Tonight Lyric

It's late in the evening
She's wondering what clothes to wear
She puts on her make up
And brushes her long blonde hair
And then she asks me Do I look alright
And I say yes, you look wonderful tonight

We go a party And everyone turns to see
This beautiful lady, That's walking around with me
And then she asks me, Do you feel alright
And I say yes, I feel wonderful tonight

I feel wonderful
Because I see the love light in your eyes
And the wonder of it all
Is that you just don't realize
How much I love you

Its time to go home now
And I've got an aching head
So I give her the car keys
She helps me to bed, And then I tell her
As I turn out the light, I say my darling,
you were wonderful tonight
Oh my darling, you were wonderful tonight

Song Note : "Clapton wrote this in 1976 while waiting for his girlfriend (and future wife) Pattie to get ready for a night out. They were going to a Buddy Holly tribute that Paul McCartney put together, and Clapton was in the familiar position of waiting while she tried on clothes."

"Pattie was married to George Harrison when Clapton expressed his love for her on the song 'Layla' Clapton and Harrison remained good friends, and Harrison even played at their wedding in 1979. Eric and Pattie divorced in 1988."

Eric Clapton - Tears In Heaven Unpluged

Tears In Heaven Lyric

Would you know my name
If I saw you in heaven?
Would you feel the same
If I saw you in heaven?
I must be strong and carry on
cause I know I don't belong here in heaven

Would you hold my hand
If I saw you in heaven?
Would you help me stand
If I saw you in heaven?
I'll find my way through night and day
cause I know I just can't stay here in heaven

Time can bring you down, time can bend your knees
Time can break your heart, have you begging please begging please

Beyond the door there's peace I'm sure
And I know there'll be no more tears in heaven

Would you know my name
If I saw you in heaven?
Would you feel the same
If I saw you in heaven?
I must be strong and carry on
cause I know I don't belong here in heaven

Song Note : "Clapton wrote this about his 4-year-old son Conor, who died when he fell out of a 53rd floor window in the apartment where his mother was staying in New York City. Clapton had one other child at the time: His daughter Ruth was born in 1987, the year after Conor was born."

"Clapton wrote this with Will Jennings, who has written many famous songs from movies, including "Up Where We Belong" from An Officer And A Gentleman and 'My Heart Will Go On' from Titanic. Jennings wrote the lyrics to many of Steve Winwood's hits and has also written with B.B. King, Roy Orbison, The Crusaders, Peter Wolf and many others. He explains: 'Eric and I were engaged to write a song for a movie called Rush. We wrote a song called 'Help Me Up' for the end of the movie... then Eric saw another place in the movie for a song and he said to me, 'I want to write a song about my boy.' Eric had the first verse of the song written, which, to me, is all the song, but he wanted me to write the rest of the verse lines and the release ('Time can bring you down, time can bend your knees...'), even though I told him that it was so personal he should write everything himself. He told me that he had admired the work I did with Steve Winwood and finally there was nothing else but do to as he requested, despite the sensitivity of the subject. This is a song so personal and so sad that it is unique in my experience of writing songs'. "

"Conor's mother is actress Lory Del Santo. She and Clapton began dating while he was going through a divorce with his wife Pattie."

"This Song won Grammys in 1993 for Record Of The Year, Song Of The Year, and Best Male Pop Vocal. Clapton was nominated for 9 Grammys that year and won 6."

Eric Clapton - Holy Mother

Live Concert In Hyde Park

Holy Mother Lyric

Holy Mother, where are you?
Tonight I feel broken in two
I've seen the stars fall from the sky
Holy mother, can't keep from crying

Oh I need your help this time,
Get me through this lonely night
Tell me please which way to turn
To find myself again

Holy mother, hear my prayer,
Somehow I know you're still there
Send me please some peace of mind
Take away this pain

I can't wait, I can't wait, I can't wait any longer
I can't wait, I can't wait, I can't wait for you

Holy mother, hear my cry,
I've cursed your name a thousand times
I've felt the anger running through my soul
Holy Mother can't keep control

Oh I feel the end has come
No longer my legs will run
You know I would rather be
In your arms tonight

When my hands no longer play,
My voice is still, I fade away
Holy mother, then I'll be
Lying in, safe within your arms

Eric Clapton - Old Love

Live Concert In Hyde Park

Old Love Lyric

I can feel your body
When I'm lying in bed
There's too much confusion
Going around through my head

And it makes me so angry
To know that the flame still burns
Why can't I get over?
When will I ever learn?

Old love, leave me alone
Old love, go on home

I can see your face
But I know that it's not real
It's just an illusion
Caused by how I used to feel

And it makes me so angry
To know that the flame will always burn
I'll never get over
I know now that I'll never learn

Eric Clapton - Layla

Live In Hyde Park

Layla Lyric

What do you do when you get lonely
and nobody's waiting by your side?
You've been running and hiding much too long
You know it's just your foolish pride

Layla, you got me on my knees
Layla, i'm begging darlin' please
Layla, darling won't you ease my worried mind?

I Tried to give you consolation
When Your old man had let you down
Like a fool, I fell in love with you,
You turned my whole world upside down

Let's make the best of the situation,
Before I finally go insane
Please don't say we'll never find a way,
Or tell me all my love's in vain

Eric Clapton - I Shot The Sherriff

Live Concert in Hyde Park

Song Note : "This was written and originally recorded by Bob Marley in 1973. A member of Clapton's band played the Bob Marley album for him and convinced him to record it."

"Clapton didn't want to use this on the album because he thought it might seem disrespectful to Marley. Members of his band and management convinced him that it should not only go on the album, but also be released as a single."

"Eric spoke with Bob Marley about the song, he said "I tried to ask him what the song was all about, but couldn't understand much of his reply. I was just relieved that he liked what we had done."

I Shot The Sherriff Lyric

I shot the sheriff But I didn't shoot no deputy, oh no! oh!
I shot the sheriff But I didn't shoot no deputy, ooh, ooh, oo-ooh
Yeah! all around in my home town, They're tryin to track me down
They say they want to bring me in guilty for the killing of a deputy,
For the life of a deputy. But I say Oh, now, now. oh! I shot the sheriff
but I swear it was in selfdefence. Oh, no! ooh, ooh, oo-oh yeah!
I say I shot the sheriff - oh, lord! and they say it is a capital offence
Yeah! ooh, ooh, oo-oh yeah! Sheriff john brown always hated me,
For what, I dont know. Every time I plant a seed,
He said kill it before it grow. He said kill them before they grow.
And so, Read it in the news, I shot the sheriff. oh, lord!
but I swear it was inself-defence. Where was the deputy?
oo-oo-oh I say I shot the sheriff, But I swear it was in selfdefence
oo-oh yeah! Freedom came my way one day And I started out of town,
yeah! All of a sudden I saw sheriff john brown aiming to shoot me down,
So I shot I shot I shot him down and I say If I am guilty I will pay
I shot the sheriff, But I say, but I didn't shoot no deputy,
I didn't shoot no deputy oh, no-oh, oh no! I shot the sheriff
I did! But I didn't shoot no deputy
oh! oo-oo-ooh Reflexes had got the better of me
And what is to be must be. Every day the bucket a-go a well,
One day the bottom a-go drop out, One day the bottom a-go drop out
I say I - I - I - I shot the sheriff. Lord, I didn't shot the deputy
yeah! I - I shot the sheriff, But I didn't shoot no deputy,
yeah! no, yeah!

Song Note : "This song tells the story of a man who shoots a sheriff who is harassing him, but is wrongly accused of killing the deputy. Marley said that some of the song is true, but would not say what parts."

"This was the last single Marley released with Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer, who left to go solo."

"The sheriff's name in the song is John Brown. In 1963, Bob Dylan wrote a song called "John Brown" about a boy who goes to war and comes back badly wounded."

Bob Marley - No Woman No Cry

Concert Video

No Woman No Cry Lyric

No woman no cry, No woman no cry
No woman no cry, No woman no cry
Said!said!said! I remember when we used to sit
In the government yard in trenchtown,
Oba! oba! serving the ypocrites As they would mingle
with the good people we meet.Good friends we have,
oh, good friends we've lost along the way
In this great future, you can't forget your past So dry your tears,
I seh No woman no cry, No woman no cry ere,
little darlin, don't shed no tears, No woman no cry
Said!said!said! I remember when we used to sit
In the government yard in trenchtown
And then georgie would make the fire lights,
As it was logwood burnin through the nights
Then we would cook cornmeal porridge,Of which I'll share with you
My feet is my only carriage,So I've got to push on through
But while Im gone, I mean Everythings gonna be alright!
Everythings gonna be alright! Everythings gonna be alright!
Everythings gonna be alright! I said, everythings gonna be alright
Everythings gonna be alright! Everythings gonna be alright,
now!Everythings gonna be alright! So,No woman no cry,
No - no woman woman, no cry, Woman, little sister, don't shed no tears
No, woman, no cry.I remember when we used to sit
In the government yard in trenchtown And then georgie would make the fire lights,
As it was logwood burnin through the nights
Then we would cook cornmeal porridge,Of which I'll share with you
My feet is my only carriage, So Ive got to push on through
But while I'm gone, No woman no cry, No woman no cry
Woman, little darlin, say don't shed no tears
No, woman, no cry. Eh! little darlin, don't shed no tears
No woman no cry. Little sister, don't shed no tears. No woman no cry

Song Title : "Marley wrote this, but gave a composer credit to Vincent Ford, one of his friends from Jamaica who helped him out when he was very poor. By giving Ford the credit, Marley was helping out an old friend by making sure he got royalty checks. Ford ran a soup kitchen in Kingston."

"According to Rolling Stone magazine, the "Government yard in Trench Town" refers to the Jamaican public-housing project where Marley lived in the late '50s."

"This became Marley's first hit when it was released as a single from his album, Live!, which was recorded at the Lyceum in London in 1975. It was a hot July night, and they gave a rousing performance. This tour was a breakthrough for Marley and The Wailers. Their previous tour went horribly, as audiences outside of Jamaica did not appreciate his pure Reggae. He polished and tightened his sound for this tour in order to compete with the slick arena acts that were popular at the time, and got a great response. Glowing reviews led to sold out shows in the US, and by the time the tour hit London, they were a huge success."

Pink Floyd - Learning To Fly

Music Video

Learning to Fly Lyric

Into the distance, a ribbon of black
Stretched to the point of no turning back
A flight of fancy on a windswept field
Standing alone my senses reeled
A fatal attraction is holding me fast
How can I escape this irresistible grasp?

Can't keep my eyes from the circling skies
Tongue-tied and twisted just an earthbound misfit, I

Ice is forming on the tips of my wings
Unheeded warnings, I thought I thought of everything
No navigator to find my way home
Unladen, empty and turned to stone

A soul intention, that's learning to fly
Condition grounded but determined to try
Can't keep my eyes from the circling skies
Tongue-tied and twisted just an earthbound misfit, I

Above the planet on a wing and a prayer,
My grubby halo, a vapour trail in the empty air
Across the clouds I see my shadow fly
Out of the corner of my watering eye
A dream unthreatened by the morning light
Could blow this soul right through the roof of the night

There's no sensation to compare with this
Suspended animation, a state of bliss
Can't keep my mind from the circling skies
Tongue-tied and twisted just an earthbound misfit, I

Song Note : "Gilmour is a pilot. He owns a company called Intrepid Aviation"

David Gilmour (Only Music, 1987): "'Learning to Fly' is about breaking free and the actual mechanics of learning to fly an airplane."

"The dubbed over voice of pilots talking is actually a recording of drummer Nick Mason during a flying lesson. According to his book Inside Out, both Mason and Gilmour were terrified of flying but eventually got their pilot Licenses"

Pink Floyd - Shine on You Crazy Diamond Intro Solo

Syd Barrette Tribute

Shine on You Crazy Diamond Lyric

Remember when you were young, you shone like the sun
Shine on you crazy diamond
Now there's a look in your eyes, like black holes in the sky
Shine on you crazy diamond
You were caught in the cross fire of childhood and stardom
Blown on the steel breeze
Come on you target for faraway laughter
Come on you stranger, you legend, you martyr, and shine

You reached for the secret too soon, you cried for the moon
Shine on you crazy diamond
Threatened by shadows at night, and exposed in the light
Shine on you crazy diamond
Well you wore out your welcome with random precision
Rode on the steel breeze
Come on you raver, you seer of visions
Come on you painter, you piper, you prisoner, and shine

Nobody knows where you are, how near or how far.
Shine on you crazy diamond
Pile on many more layers and I'll be joining you there
Shine on you crazy diamond
And we'll bask in the shadow of yesterday's triumph,
and sail on the steel breeze
Come on you boy child, you winner and loser,
come on you miner for truth and delusion, and shine

Song Notes : "This is a tribute to Syd Barrett, an original member of Pink Floyd - notice the title, Shine On You Crazy Diamond. He was their lead guitarist and wrote most of their early hits, but he gradually went nuts and was kicked out of the band in 1968, 3 years after the group started. Drugs played a big role in his mental illness"

"During the final mixing sessions of this song in June of 1975, Barrett wandered into the studios, ready to help out. He was fat, bald, and as crazy as they remembered, but they let him stay for a while. Barrett wanted to rejoin the group, but they learned in 1967 and 1968 that having an insane member was not good for a band. Before he was kicked out, Barrett would get on stage and either refuse to play or play the same note over and over"

"Gilmour came up with 4 notes that became the basis for this. Roger Waters thought they conveyed emotions Barrett must have been feeling, and wrote lyrics about him"

"Pink Floyd started playing this live over a year before the album came out. The band thought they could improve on songs if they played them at concerts before recording them. At the time, it was known as 'Shine On'. "

"This was the last song Richard Wright got a writing credit for before Roger Waters kicked him out of the band during The Wall sessions 4 years later. A combination of Waters' increasing control over the group and Wright's mounting personal problems are what led to his departure. He would not rejoin the band until 1987, after Waters himself had left"
