Led Zeppelin - The Rover

The Rover Lyric

I've been to London, seen seven wonders. I know to trip is just to fall
I used to rock it, sometimes I'd roll it. I always knew what it was for.

There can be no denyin' that the wind 'll shake 'em down
And the flat world's flyin'. There's a new plague on the land

If we could just join hands

Traversed the planet when heaven sent me. I saw the kings who rule them all
Still by the firelight and purple moonlight. I hear the rested rivers call
And the wind is crying, from a love that won't grow cold
My lover, she is lying, on the dark side of the globe

If we could just join hands

You got me rockin' when I ought to be a-rollin'
Darlin', tell me, darlin', which way to go
You keep me rockin', baby, then you keep me stolen
Won't you tell me, darlin', which way to go... that's right

Oh how I wonder, oh how I worry and I would dearly like to know
I've all this wonder of earthly plunder will it leave us anything to show

And our time is flyin' see the candle burnin' low
Is the new world rising, from the shambles of the old

If we could just join hands

and here's couple of " yeaah, yeaah" that's right, that's right"

Song Note : " 'Rover' is old British slang for a wanderer. The lyrics are fitting to this definition"

"This began life as an acoustic piece. Jimmy Page and Robert Plant started writing it in 1970 at Bron-yr-Aur, the cottage in Wales they went to after a brutal US tour. The cottage had no electricity or running water"

"Led Zeppelin recorded this at the Houses Of The Holy sessions. They didn't use it on that album, so they remixed it for Physical Graffiti"

"Led Zeppelin never played this live, but during their 1977 tour of the United States, the band would often use the opening riff to segue into 'Sick Again'. "

"The intro is very close to the Kinks track "Wicked Annabella" from their Village Green album"

Song Note : "This was Led Zeppelin's first US single, and their only US Top-10 hit. Some of their most popular songs, like "Stairway To Heaven," were not released as singles"

"Atlantic Records pressed copies of the single to release in England, but Peter Grant, their manager, wouldn't let them. He felt releasing singles in England would hurt album sales, and the band thought that one song was not a good representation of any group. In the US, it was acceptable because more people bought singles"

"Some parts of the song as well as some lyrics were borrowed form a song called "You Need Loving" by the Small Faces. The Small Faces was a '60 band that Zeppelin modeled themselves after"

Led Zeppelin - Rock 'n Roll

Rock 'n Roll Lyric

It's been a long time since I rock-and-rolled
It's been a long time since I did the Stroll
Ooh, let me get it back, let me get it back, let me get it back
mm-baby, where I come from
It's been a long time, been a long time
Been a long lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely time
Yes, it has

It's been a long time since the book of love
I can't count the tears of a life with no love
A-carry me back, carry me back, carry me back
mm-baby, where I come from,whoa-whoa, whoa-oh-oh-hoh
Its been a long time, been a long time
Been a long lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely time
Ah, ah-ah, ah-ah

Hoh, it's been so long since we walked in the moonlight
a-making vows that just can't work right
Haw-haw, yeah, open your arms, open your arms, open your arms
Baby let my love come runinng in, a-yeah
It's been a long time, been a long time
Been a long lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely time.

Yeah, hey, yay, hey, yeah, hey, yeah, hey
Ooh, yeah, ooh-ooh, yeah, ooh-ooh, yeah, ooh-ooh, yeah
It's been a long time, been a long time
Been a long lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely time

Song Note : "Robert Plant wrote the lyrics, which were a response to critics who claimed their previous album, Led Zeppelin III, wasn't really Rock and Roll. Led Zeppelin III had more of an acoustic, Folk sound, and Plant wanted to prove they could still rock out"

"All 4 band members got writing credits for this. Many Zeppelin songs are credited only to Page and Plant"

"The band often used this either as an encore or to open live shows from 1971-1975"

"As the title suggests, the song is based on one of the most popular structures in Rock And Roll; namely, the 12 bar blues progression (in A). The phrase "Rock and Roll" was a term Blues musicians used, which meant sex"

Led Zeppelin - The Rain Song

The Rain Song Lyric

It is the springtime of my loving
the second season I am to know
You are the sunlight in my growing
so little warmth I've felt before
It isn't hard to feel me glowing
I watched the fire that grew so low

It is the summer of my smiles
flee from me Keepers of the Gloom
Speak to me only with your eyes
It is to you I give this tune
Ain't so hard to recognize
These things are clear to all from time to time

Talk Talk I've felt the coldness of my winter
I never thought it would ever go
I cursed the gloom that set upon us
But I know that I love you so

These are the seasons of emotion
and like the winds they rise and fall
This is the wonder of devotion
I seek the torch we all must hold
This is the mystery of the quotient
Upon us all a little rain must fall
It's just a little rain

Song Note : "This was written after George Harrison, who is a huge fan, told John Bonham that the trouble with Led Zeppelin is that they don't do any ballads"

"Robert Plant's lyrics deal with the changing emotions of love"

"This was one of the few Zeppelin songs where all 4 members shared the composer credit"

"In an interview with 'Rolling Stone' Plant said this was his best Led Zeppelin vocal performance"

Jimmy Page & Robert Plant - The Rain Song Unplugged

Led Zeppelin - The Song Remains The Same

The Song Remains The Same Lyric

I had a dream. Crazy dream.
Anything I wanted to know, any place I needed to go

Hear my song. People won't you listen now? Sing along.
You don't know what you're missing now.
Any little song that you know
Everything that's small has to grow.
And it has to grow!

California sunlight, sweet Calcutta rain
Honolulu starbright - the song remains the same.

Sing out Hare Hare, dance the Hoochie Koo.
City lights are oh so bright, as we go sliding... sliding... sliding through

Song Note : "The lyrics were based on Robert Plant's belief that music is universal"

"The title was used for a concert film and soundtrack released in 1976. Footage from three 1973 Madison Square Garden shows was mixed with scenes of the band acting out their "fantasies." The band was not happy with the results"

"Plant introduced this in concerts as 'The Campaign' before the title was changed"

"Jimmy Page always used his legendary double-necked guitar to play this live. He used the same guitar on "The Rain Song" which would always directly follow it"

Led Zeppelin - The Ocean

The Ocean Lyric

We've done four already but now we're steady
and then they went One, two, three, four

Singing in the sunshine, laughing in the rain
Hitting on the moonshine, rocking in the grain
Got no time to pack my bag, my foots outside the door
Got a date, can't be late for the high hopes hailla ball

Singing to an ocean, I can hear the ocean's roar
Play for free, play for me and play a whole lot more
Singing about the good things and the sun that lights the day
I use to sing on the mountains, has the ocean lost its way. I don't know

na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na
na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na
na na na na na na na na

Sitting round singing songs til the night turns into day
Used to sing on the mountains but the mountains washed away
Now I'm singing all my songs to the girl who won my heart
She is only three years old and it's a real fine way to start.
Oh yeah
It sure is fine
Blow my mind
When the tears are going down

Yeah Yeah

Oh so good

Song Note : "This is one of the few Zeppelin songs where all 4 members shared the writing credit"

"The lyrics about 'The Hellhound' refer to Blues musician Robert Johnson, who according to legend, sold his soul to the devil. On the lyrics sheet that came with the album, the word 'hellhound' was replaced with 'high hopes hailla'. "
